About

L'AUNE jewelry is handmade in Montreal
with care and attention to detail by Karine Denault .

L'AUNE was born out of a need for escape and a quest for beauty in everyday life.

In contrast to the speed of the world, I patiently create elegant and delicate jewelry by hand in my workshop in Montreal. Mini wearable sculptures  to embellish your daily life with intention and simplicity.

The age-old lost-wax technique is my favorite. It offers infinite possibilities, and its slow, meditative process stops time (a shape is first sculpted in wax before being cast in metal). I can spend hours sculpting and refining the small shapes that will become pendants, rings, earrings...

I often joke that I've had several lives... It's with my sensibility and experience as a contemporary dance choreographer and performer that I approach jewelry. Movement is always there somewhere, influencing my ideas and choices. It weaves its way into the curves of my jewelry, giving it a soft, supple feel that celebrates femininity.

"I create mini sculptures-à-porter to embellish your everyday life with intention and simplicity."

With their fluid, timeless shapes inspired by nature, art and movement, L'AUNE jewels stand the test of time and fashion. They can accompany you everywhere and live with you. They become a part of you.

For me, jewelry is an accessory to cherish, to keep for a long time, to wear often. The more you wear it, the more it becomes part of you, defining you in a way. And it has the power to evoke memories. It reminds us of the person who gave it to us, an important moment in our lives, who we were or who we hope to become...

It's a great privilege for me to create objects that will become so intimate for you.

Multiple lives

I often say that I've had several lives. A joke that's not quite a joke...

I've been involved in the arts for many years. As a contemporary dance choreographer and performer, I have collaborated with many other artists and presented my work in Canada and abroad. I was also artistic advisor to the Festival TransAmériques, as well as editor and co-director of Le Quartanier publishing house and the art and literature magazine OVNI Magazine.

When I was 13, I dreamed of becoming a jeweler and a dancer. A jeweler who dances. I had completely forgotten this desire! Jewelry-making came after dancing, but now it occupies most of my time.

Partly self-taught, I have studied jewelry and gemmology since 2016 at the Centre des arts visuels de Montréal, the École de joaillerie de Montréal, the École de gemmologie de Montréal and the prestigious Jewellery Academy in London. I'm a member of the Conseil des métiers d'art du Québec since 2022.

With the ELLES project, a series of meetings with inspiring artists, I'm also making L'AUNE a space for encounters, discussion and exchange.

Values

Embellishing everyday life
Mini wearable sculptures that can follow you everywhere, at all times. To add art and beauty to your everyday life.

Proof against time and fashion
With their elegant, timeless design, L'AUNE jewelry will stand the test of time and never go out of style. You'll wear them so often, they'll become a part of you.

Quality rather than quantity
Handcrafted with care and attention to detail using quality materials, they are made to order, especially for you. The antithesis of fast fashion, for those who recognize the value of craftsmanship.

Local and artisanal production
I make all my jewelry by hand in my workshop in Montreal, with the help of a Montreal foundry. Materials are sourced from specialized local suppliers, thus contributing to the circularity of the Quebec economy.

Nothing is lost and everything is created
To avoid waste and overproduction, and preserve natural resources: jewelry is made to order, scrap metal is recycled to become new jewelry, and the beautiful boxes and shipping packaging are made from FSC-certified recycled cardboard.

Caring for yourself and others
Each piece is protected by a quality guarantee and contributes to the mission of Maison Passages, an organization that helps young women in difficulty aged 18 to 30. Because buying a piece of L'AUNE jewelry means treating yourself while supporting an important cause.
